How can we develop a sustainable and innovative design for the annual 'De Staat van het Onderwijs' report that effectively communicates key educational developments to a diverse audience, including teachers, administrators, civil servants, and ministers?

To create a fresh visual identity for the report that is both innovative and enduring, ensuring clarity and engagement for over 10,000 readers across various platforms, including digital reports, webinars, online magazines, and social media.

Visual concept

  • Patterns of Growth: Inspired by familiar school notebook patterns, each theme within the report is represented by a distinct pattern, symbolizing recognition and development. This approach reflects the multifaceted nature of the report and subtly references different educational themes.


  • Illustration Style: Maintaining a consistent and recognizable illustration style that has been used in previous editions, ensuring continuity and immediate recognition.


  • Color Palette and Typography: A carefully selected color palette and custom typography enhance readability and align with the official government style, providing a cohesive and professional appearance.

The collaboration resulted in a powerful and recognizable visual identity for 'De Staat van het Onderwijs,' seamlessly fitting within the national government style. The new design framework includes:


  • Infographics and Data Visualizations: Each main theme is succinctly and clearly explained through dedicated infographics, facilitating easy comprehension of complex information.


  • Style Guide Development: A comprehensive style guide was created, detailing design rules for external parties to ensure consistency across all materials.
